Bio
Þórður Helgason was born in Reykjavík on November 5, 1947. He graduated from Iceland’s Teacher Training Collage in 1967 and completed a final highschool exam from the same school a year later. He got a B.A. degree in Icelandic and history from the University of Iceland in 1972 and in 1977 completed a Cand.Mag. degree in Icelandic, also at the University of Iceland.
Þórður taught at The Commercial College of Iceland for years, but is now an associate professor in Icelandic at the Iceland University of Education, after having been a part time lecturer there for some years. Þórður was also a part time lecturer at the University of Iceland and was assistant professor there for two terms.
Þórður has written poetry and books for children and young people, as well as a number of textbooks. He has also been the editor of a number of books, editing the works of the Icelandic writer Þorgils gjallandi as an example. His short stories have appeared in collections and magazines. He is a member of the Creative Writing Group of Kópavogur, and has organised courses on poetry writing for years, and supervised publications of poetry collections as a result of these courses.
Þórður Helgason lives in the Reykjavík suburb of Kópavogur.
