Gunnar Theodór Eggertsson

Bio

Gunnar Theodór Eggertsson was born in Reykjavík on January 9 1982. He is a writer, scholar and a musician.

He has a BA-degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Iceland (2005), a MA-degree in Film Studies from the University of Amsterdam (2006) and finally a PhD degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Iceland (2016).

​Gunnar writes novels for children, teens and adults.

Gunnar has written various articles and essays for literary journals and radio and has been a part time lecturer at the University of Iceland. In addition he has given numerous papers at conferences and Universities, both in Iceland and abroad. He specialises in animals and animal welfare.

His short story „Vetrarsaga“ (“A Winter Tale”) received the Icelandic Criminal Society Award (Gaddakylfan) in 2005.

In 2008 he received The Icelandic Children’s Literature Award for debut novel Steindýrin (The Stone Animals).

He is a pianist and composer for neo-classical chamber punk trio Malneirophrenia.
